Decided to add a few more to this series.
This series of caches are along a public access roads that connect Hwy 64, north of Sturgeon Falls to Hwy 17, east of Sturgeon Falls. These gravel roads comprise of Crystal Falls Road, Dubuc Road and Riding Stable Road. The roads are seasonally maintained and are generally in good condition, accessible by most vehicles except for in the winter due to a section which is not ploughed.
During the great flood of 1979, the bridge which spanned over the Sturgeon River washed away. The village of Crystal Falls was left with no access for common vehicles. The provincial government rehabilitated the old logging road north of Riding Stable Road and the section of Dubuc Road which follows Smokey Creek, thus creating access to the isolated residents of Crystal Falls and the numerous seasonal cottagers.
The caches are names after some birds which are common to this area. You may also come across a variety of other wildlife, so keep an eye out. Happy caching and please be respectful of the natural beauty of our forests. As always please consider cache in / trash out.
