Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park was offically opened in November 2019, but still has a lot of work to be done over the coming years to reach the final vision for this project. So no time for procrastinating. I had placed another cache here back in 2012, but since they have now built walkways I have decided to archive it and place this cache in it's place a little closer to the walkway.
Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park (WHNP) is the flagship project for native biodiversity in Hamilton. This science-based, community-led project, represents a vision of bringing back Hamilton’s native flora and fauna. Established in 2004, the long-term aim of Waiwhakareke is to reconstruct the natural forest, wetland and lake ecosystems present in pre-European times. Intensive predator control will allow vulnerable species to flourish in an urban environment and spill over to other parts of the city.
