Atticus Finch was one of the main characters in the classic novel, "To Kill A Mockingbird", which was published only a few short years before this lake -- and this island -- was created.
Atticus was the father of Scout and Jem. Although he was a quiet and gentle man, to the amazement of his children, he was revealed to be a dead shot with a rifle. He would have liked to hunt deer on this island.
