Much local effort is directed toward restoring salmon and steelhead populations in northeast Oregon. Here the Nez Perce Tribe and the U.S. Forest Service removed a hanging culvert that blocked fish passage and replaced it with a bottomless arch culvert. Imnaha steelhead can now pass above the road to reach cold water habitat. Every year steelhead can be seen spawning in this small but important tributary to the Imnaha River thanks to this restoration project.
