L'esplorazione della nuova pista ciclabile sui vecchi binari de Il "Trammino" di Tirrenia continua e vi porta ora sopra al Canale Navicelli e all sue chiuse.

The exploration of the new bike paths on the old rails of the il Il "Trammino" di Tirrenia (The "little Tram" of Tirrenia) continues and now brings you over the Navicelli canal and its locks.
ITALIANO:
Il canale dei Navicelli è un canale realizzato fra il 1563 e il 1575 che collega Pisa con il porto di Livorno. Prende il nome dai cosiddetti navicelli, caratteristiche imbarcazioni toscane di modeste dimensioni, utilizzate per il trasporto di merci provenienti dalla pianura pisana, dal lago di Bientina e dall'area di Empoli, essendo l'Arno al tempo navigabile fino a porto di Mezzo.
Dove vi trovate ora è poco più a nord del ponte orginal sul quale passava regolarmente il Trammino lasciando la città (GC7HPA6).
Guardando a Nord potete osservare il sistema di chiuse del canele che permette alle barche di passare dal fiume Arno al canale stesso.
ENGLISH:
The Navicelli Canal is a canal built between 1563 and 1575 to connect Pisa with the port of Livorno. The name originates from the so-called navicelli, small sized Tuscan boats that transported goods on the channel across the Pisan plain from Lake Bientina to the area of Empoli.
Where are you standing now is just few meters northern than the original bridge where tre train passed reguarly after leaving the city (GC7HPA6).
Looking North you can see the locks of the canal that let the boat passing from the Arno river to the canal itself.
