Cache Info Oak Hall Regional Park

Diamonds on the Hill is none other than Oak Hall Regional Park, one of the premier baseball and softball parks for the State College area.  Centre Region Parks and Recreation hosts typically 18-20 softball and baseball tournaments per year at this facility.  The park’s Phase 1 development took place over 1 ½ years, and opened officially in 2015.  This 68-acre park is so much more than just the sports fields.

Many residents purposefully drive to the park before or after work to walk—to either walk themselves or their four-legged friends!  The park’s trails meander around the sports fields and in and out of wildflower and native grass meadows.  There are many pollinator plants along these trails, particularly Milkweed to help our Monarch Butterflies.

Limestone table rocks are placed in strategic locations if you want to rest and soak in the view.  One of the best views is at the very top of the park, between fields #3 and #4, accessible using the outer perimeter trail.  Stop there and soak in the view of State College with Mount Nittany to your right!   Softball Tournament

Phase II will include additional playing fields, a playground and possibly a sprayground, picnic pavilions, press box, and improved trails.  Click Oak Hall Regional Park to read more about this facility.

This cache will take you on a nice short walk; please stay on the trails and do not bushwalk through our wildflower meadows.  There are several hidden drainage basins through these fields.  All parking is available in the main lot.  During the spring, summer, and fall, restrooms are available, and if you come during the season, you may just find the concession stand open selling yummy snacks, drinks, and ice cream.

This cache is ONLY available between dawn and dusk. If you find the gate closed at the parking lot, please respect the gate and do not bushwack to the cache site.  The gate means the park is closed.  Cache permission was granted by Centre Region Parks and Recreation, Permit #2020-06-27-01.

9/6/2020:  This cache was muggled so there is a new container and a slightly different ending.  Puzzle and hint have been updated.

When caching, stealth is required.  It is recommended to poke around a bit before reaching in for the cache container.

For The Final

Solve for:  N40 47.4A1 W077 47.B62

Take a nice walk around the park and head for coordinates.  At the first stop (N40 47.560 W077 47.763), what do you see? There are three "groupings" in this area.  Find the largest grouping and count those items.  A = largest grouping + 1

Continue past this area, downhill, and you’ll see a red trail distance post on your left.  B = 1st number (the largest digit on the post)

Now, head to the final location.
