Geocache Description:

The year 4-8 class at National Park school, called Te Whiowhio and Paretetaitonga, spent five weeks doing lots of learning about geocaching and the geocaching culture. They have created ten geocaches and placed them around the National Park village area. Each cache includes information about an aspect of National Park village life. Please enjoy the mahi (work) they have done, and be sure to leave them a comment!

NZ’s top school (National Park School) is a great place if you love the outdoors. It’s the top school because it's the highest in altitude (at 825m) and we think it’s the coolest! The school was first established in 1925, and the first teacher was called Mrs Haggo.

From 1925 to 1936, there were over one hundred and twenty people, and one class. Today there are 45-55 children and a cat called Buster. Sometimes we have two classes and sometimes we have three. In 2019 there were three classes.

We go out on lots of trips that aren't in the Ruapehu district and we do lots of PE as well. We do hockey, soccer, mountain biking, cross country, tough kid mud run (which is awesome fun!) and of course skiing and snowboarding.

For the winter programme in term 3 we do lots of skiing and snowboarding - it’s really fun! Students have one day of skiing or snowboarding lessons every week. In term 3 each year, children come from around NZ to join us for all the ski programme fun!

We think our school is a really great place to be, and we’d love you to come join us!

We have left some painted rocks as treasure for the first finders to keep or place in another cache.
