Welcome to Thorndon Country Park.
This is a series of caches placed by FamilyAustin with the knowledge and approval of Essex County Council's Ranger Service and Brentwood Borough Council.
Due to the vast tree coverage and the extent of the woodland, GPS reception can be tricky. We advise that all caches are downloaded prior to visiting the park.
Thorndon Country Park offers a variety of habitats including ancient woodland, parkland, ponds, a marsh and meadow. There are some stunning ancient trees including Giant Oak and Hornbeam pollards that are reminders that this was once a deer park. Parts of it used to be heath land, now a scarce habitat in Essex, and to restore it, parts of the park, both north and south, are being grazed by goats and sheep.
The countryside centre is managed by Essex Wildlife Trust and the Park is managed by Essex County Council in a joint venture.
We hope you enjoy the caches that have been placed within the park and woodland but please treat them with respect and return them to their original condition so that others may enjoy.

The Cache
This is one of a number of caches hidden in Thorndon Country Park.
It is an ammo box containing a puzzle to solve in order to reach the log. Depending upon your approach, it is a little way off the main path. You may need a torch to find the cache and a pencil to sign the log.
