Niijima joe is a Christian from Annaka City who was instrumental in the establishment of Doshisha University.
The school was established by the Annaka Church apostles who agreed with Niijima's vision.
新島襄は安中市出身のクリスチャンで同志社大学の開設に尽力した人物です。
新島襄の考えに賛同した安中教会使徒により学校が開設されました。

自由な校風が有名で布袋寅泰もこの学校を卒業しいくつかの逸話を残しています。
