Powder Mills is close to the eastern end of the 14-15 mile Lych Way trail reproducing the original Way of the Dead which up to 1260, was the route which those living on the east side of Dartmoor used to transport/carry their deceased to be buried in Lydford parish church! More recently the Dartmoor Rescue Group ran a sponsored walk from nearby Bellever carpark, through the Powder Mills, across the moor to Lydford.
