The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.
This easy 2-stage multi-cache is hidden in a heavily wooded 20-acre community park. The property was donated to the City of Columbia by the Kiwanis Club in 1958. Visitors can enjoy nearly a mile of dirt and gravel trails through the woods, and may encounter white-tailed deer, foxes, and box turtles. Throughout the spring a succession of wildflowers bloom and the park is home to a wide variety of native tree species. Many bird species nest in the park as well.
I placed the cache to celebrate a small group of friends in my neighborhood. In the spring of 2020, in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic stay-at-home, we instituted “unofficial geocaching” as a way to amuse ourselves, get outside, and keep our distance from one another while keeping in touch. We took turns hiding caches for the others to find, mostly in this park. We texted coordinates for our caches among the group comprised of 2 retirees and 3 moms and their young daughters. We followed official geocaching rules, with coordinates, logs, hints, and SWAG. We even had multi-caches.
The cache name reflects how much this park has meant to us as a place for kids to play, for dog-walking, for bird-watching, and for wildflower identification. Most particularly, the cache name is a tip of the hat to a cache hidden by one of our mother-daughter teams. The younger member of the team expressed how much this little geocaching activity meant to all of us: “It’s pretty fun to be geocaching so much, because even though we can’t really be together, we can still sort of play together.”
Take some time to wander the trails in this little park. Enjoy finding the cache, and remember to be thankful for the people in your lives who support you in tough times.
Finding the Cache:
Navigate to Waypoint 1.
Here you will find a wooden structure. Count the number of upright posts and assign that the letter A.
Count the number of planks, and assign that the letters BC.
Now for a little math.
D = A - B
E = B x 2
F = C – B
G = A / C
H = B x 3
Final Coordinates are N 38 DE.EGF W092 GF.HGD
You’re looking for a camouflaged micro with room for very small trade items.
You will need to bring your own writing utensil.
The Difficulty rating reflects the time it may take you to solve the coordinates rather than the difficulty of finding the actual cache.
FTF gets a hearty congratulations, bragging rights, and a little sparkly pendant.
The park is open between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.
