Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates, which are at the house of Dame Ngaio Marsh (1895-1982), a legendary crime writer and theatre director. The Ngaio Marsh House is now a museum, which you can visit by private appointment. The house was built by Marsh's parents when she was 10 years old, designed by Samuel Hurst Seager. Marsh lived here for 76 years, producing many detective novels: we've read them all!

The final is at S 43° ??.??? E 172° ??.??? It is a screw-top jar, with a small amount of room for swaps. Bring your own pen.

Establish the timeline of events in the short story below to get to the root of the mystery.

Deadly Intrigue at the Dolphin Theatre

The final curtain fell on the scene as it had on many a night, with the dying king exiting stage right. He stumbled off with his head bent down. But the performance tonight was a bit too realistic. It was an overture to death. When the cast returned to the stage for the curtain call, the lead actor failed to enter. The cast glanced nervously about. Then one actor spotted a body slumped between props in the wings, and rushed over. "He's dead!" the actor gasped loudly. Murmurs of disbelief and confusion erupted among cast and audience alike. Shocked stares of the actors deeped, aware as they were of tensions that had hung over the production since the opening night. Was this an accident or worse? A man lay dead in the wings. Did a murderer stand among those assembled on stage?

The truth was evident to one person in the theatre that night. In the audience was a keen-eyed observer who was no stranger to death. In a white tie, more distinguished than ever, Inspector Roderick Alleyn jumped to his feet. Earlier he had noticed something no one else had during the last act. He made his way down from the dress circle to the stage. The killer had made a grave mistake in executing this crime on the night Alleyn was to hand. Alleyn dashed up to the stage before the murderer could make a last ditch effort to conceal the evidence. He already knew who had done it, and even the accomplice who was hand in glove with the killer. He faced the murderer directly. "Inspector Alleyn, CID", he declared, producing his identification from his dress coat. "I am arresting you for murder"... No artists in crime could escape the powers of detection of Roderick Alleyn, who had solved the mystery in no time at all. Can you?
