This Geocache placed in the memory of the Bell Covered Bridge.
Much like the disappearing giant wooden grain elevators of the Canadian prairies, the wooden covered bridges of New Brunswick are an iconic symbol of the past, and they have become an important tourist attraction to the province as well as being considered a cultural heritage symbol.
Bell Bridge in Hoyt, between Fredericton and Saint John, suffered too much damage due to ice flow in January 2018; and was replaced with a modern one-lane bridge. The Bell Bridge was one of three covered bridges in Hoyt; a favoured gathering spot; a significant landmark in the community and a draw for tourists.
New Brunswick reportedly had about 340 covered bridges in the early 1940s, but once the Bell Bridge was removed, that number is now 58.
