Geocache Description:

Welcome to Planet Teamwork.

For this multi-cache you need to work with an international teammate in Cape Town, South Africa to help one another find your respective final locations. Both caches end with a pretty long hike and gorgeous views. You don't need to leave the country.

Cape Town

If you don't know much about Cape Town, it is a superb city with a lot of history. In 2014 it was voted the best place in the world to visit by the New York Times and the Daily Telegraph. Ask the all wise google about Clifton beaches some time and you'll see why - it's gorgeous. It has even hosted the Fifa world cup and the Rugby world cup

Pocatello and Cape Town have a connection despite being so far from each other. They both sit in the shadows of a mountain with five letter names and flat summits: Table Mountain and Scout Mountain.

Pocatello's final is hidden within a band of cliff on a different mountain overlooking Pocatello, similar to a view of Cape Town from Table Mountain, (Minus the ocean).

The Mission

To find your teammate, go to either this cache or its sister cache, GC8X80C Planet teamwork: Cape Town to Pocatello, and under the 'log' option pick 'Write a note'. You can also look in the 'activity' section of either cache to see if someone else is trying to find a teammate. Once you're in touch you can privately message one another to finish the mission. The difficulty rating is high since establishing a teammate is difficult, especially across the time zones.

Your posted coordinates will take you to a fairly well hidden green test tube hidden in a bush. Inside you will find some coordinates for a spot in Cape Town. Your teammate needs them to find the clue you need and they’ll do the same for you. Your Cape Town team mate will find coordinates for a nearby ‘intermediate’ spot you need to find and photograph. That photo will hold information needed to crack a simple puzzle for Cape Town’s final coordinates.

At the same time, once your teammate is at the ‘intermediate’ location you send them to, they will send you a photo showing the north side plaque of a memorial on an octagonal base.

The final coordinates are at N 42° 5A.CED' W 112° 30.DBA'

To unscramble:

  • A) Number of words in top line
  • B) Number of words in the third line
  • C) Except for the top line, the number of times letter 'O' is found
  • D) Number of letters in the second to last word before roman numerals
  • E) Only one word begins with 'P', count how many letters it has

I averaged the coordinates with several coordinate readings on several apps, but some have found it to be 25 feet to the South East or South West. A more thorough survey is coming and all will be updated. Until then, god luck.

Housekeeping

Geocaching HQ has made it pretty clear you can only log caches as completed if you have actually been to them and signed the log (or equivalent virtual/earth task). Unless you visit Cape Town, you cannot log that cache as complete.

Be careful not to post any clues or answers in the online log or it will have to be removed.

Please add your teammate’s name to your log when you claim victory.

Make sure to return all the containers and clues to where you found them. All containers are placed with permission.
