Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the Camp MiGO’s 2nd annual event. This cache is placed to recognize one of Michigan’s many lakes.  This cache is located just off one of the many trails located in Sleepy Hollow State Park. Most of the trails are well groomed and hard packed making a bike a great way to get to the caches in the area.  A Michigan Passport is required for entry to the park and may be purchased there.  Keep in mind during the hunting season to be aware of hunters in the area.  Hunting is allowed from September 15th until April 1st each year.

Big Platte Lake- is located in northwest Benzie County about 2 miles west of Honor.  The Platte River enters at the east end and outlets at the west end before emptying into Lake Michigan (Platte Bay) a couples of miles downstream. Besides good resident fishing for small mouth bass, northern pike, channel catfish and other species, the lake hosts spring runs of steelhead and fall runs of Coho salmon from Lake Michigan. .

Although Big Platte Lake’s water clarity and dissolved oxygen levels have improved in recent years, there is concern among local anglers that the quality of fishing has deteriorated.  Trollers take many large channel catfish and rock bass, along with gar and dogfish and milfoil appears to be replacing bulrushes. In spite of these problems, however, Big Platte is still a very food fishing lake.

This cache is a  lock and lock container  located along one of the many trails in the Sleepy Hollow State Park. There is no bushwhacking required and its less than 70 feet off the trail.
