This cache is located on FR22 which leads to the Pinecastle Naval Range, so it seemed appropriate to have a mini-run of caches featuring some historic U.S. Navy aircraft on this road. FR22 is a road that should be good for most vehicles.
The second featured aircraft is the P-2V Neptune (AKA: P-2 Neptune). Per Wikipedia, The Lockheed P-2 Neptune was a maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft. Designed as a land-based aircraft, the Neptune never made a carrier landing, but a small number were converted and deployed as carrier-launched, nuclear bombers. The Neptune became one of the first operational aircraft fitted with both piston and jet engines.
In addition to Maritime Patrol and Anti-Submarine Warfare, the P-2 has also been used in covert operations, overland reconnaissance, aerial firefighting and as a gunship.
The P-2 was replaced in the US Navy by the P-3A Orion in active Fleet squadrons in the early and mid-1960s, but the P-2 continued to remain operational in the Naval Air Reserve through the mid-1970s.
