Geocache Description:

MILITARY SERIES – After spending 20 years in the military and retiring in 2000 as a First Sergeant from the Wisconsin Army Reserve National Guard, I decided to create this series and dedicate it to all of the men and women that served before me, with me, after me, serve today and those who will serve in future generations.

Each of the caches in this series is named after a unit, position, rank or other significant event during my military career.

While some of these may be an easy find, others may require some creative and critical thinking.  Look at the rating for each cache as they will vary within the series.

First Sergeant (1SG)(E-8): When I was promoted to Sergeant First Class, I knew that my time as the Military Police Platoon Sergeant was limited due to an impending reorganization which would ultimately eliminate the MP Platoon in the 32nd Brigade.  While many of my troops found a position with the 32nd MP Company, they did not have any E-7 openings for myself.  As a result, I took an assignment as a Platoon Sergeant with Det 1 Co C 173rd Eng Bn in Ripon, Wisconsin.  This was a new unit being formed through the same reorganization that eliminated my old position.  As the senior NCO at the Detachment (our parent unit was in Baraboo), I was also assigned as the Detachment First Sergeant. After two years in this role, a First Sergeant (E-8) position opened up in HHC 173rd Eng Bn in Onalaska, WI. I applied for and got the job and was promoted to First Sergeant (E-8).  This position is known as ‘TOP’ as at the Company level, you have reached the ‘top’ of the NCO ranks as there is typically only one E-8 within a company.  I held this position for two years, until retiring from the military with 20 years of service in December 2000.

Congratulations to Lobsters9494 and kalkranz on the co-FTF on this Cache Ba$hless weekend!
