Geocache Description:

Rana clamitans is a species of frog native to Eastern North America. Until recently, it has not been found west of Lake of The Woods in Canada, nor west of the Mississippi in the United States.  Recently, however, wildlife biologists are investigating reports that this amiable amphibian may have expanded its territory into central Saskatchewan via the Saskatchewan River system. Although keeping frogs as pets is discouraged, it is believed that a fertile pair may have ran away from their owner while on a camping trip to Douglas Provincial Park during the May Long Weekend in 2018.

Rana clamitans is elusive and therefore hard to spot.  When on land, it hides in clumps of trees when disturbed.  Some specimens are known to grow to several centimetres in length.  Their skin is rubbery and lime green in colour. It will allow itself to be handled, but has been known to defecate as a defensive tactic.  If encountered in the wild, and subsequently handled, it is important to replace them in the same surroundings as you found them, as they become disoriented and confused easily.
