Spruce Needles for all the spruce species are pretty similiar, but they do have their own specific characteristics.
The background image on the cache page is from a White Spruce tree in my backyard. White spruce needles are about two centimeters long. They are stiff and sharp . A cross section of the needle will show that it is four sided and easily rolled between the fingers. The needles are bluish green in color and are very aromatic when crushed.
For more information on the appearance of different cones, a handy field reference guide can be found here : https://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/library/documents/treebook/treebook.pdf
