Geocache Description:

The Diocese of Covington once owned this site near where the cache is located called Marydale. The Marydale Retreat Center began in 1946 with the purchase of the Williamsdale family farm and several surrounding properties, which totaled about 400 acres. Two lakes were built and 1947 marked the first camping season at Camp Marydale. The diocese sold 230 acres in 2006 to Vinings Trace LLC, a Western & Southern Financial Group subsidiary, who plans to use the property to develop new office buildings. 38 more acres was purchased in 2015. The sale does not include the two-acre Marydale Priests Cemetery, which the diocese will continue to maintain and operate.  Vinings now owns about 270 acres and is currently finalizing a master plan for the property but states that there is no time frame required to complete the development. In 2014, the Boone County Sheriffs office went to the vacant Marydale Retreat Center building to do some training when they witnessed an individual running from the building as a fire broke out in the basement. They were able to confine the fire to the basement so the structure wasn't lost but it will probably be torn down during the development anyway.

I remember seeing the Marydale sign shown below when you traveled south on I-75; it is gone now. There were cabins, lakes with fishing and canoeing, stables where you could ride horses, and even a large swimming pool. My mom remembers going there when she was a teenager for a week long camp.

Marydale sign that is now gone but could be seen from I-75 South.

Please Do Not Post Pictures of the Cache.
