Geocache Description:

Union and Confederate flags

The cache is not located in the cemetery. If you find a fallen US flag, please stick it back in the ground. As always, please be respectful, and cache in, trash out. Also, please only search for cache during daylight hours.

At the posted coordinates, you will find the graves of two soldiers from the American Civil War just a few feet apart.

Thomas Lang fought with the 20'th Maine Infantry, one of the most famous regiments in the Army of the Potomac. On July 2, 1863, the second day of the three-day Battle of Gettysburg, that regiment played a major role in the defense of Little Round Top, saving the entire union line from disaster.

The next day, Gustis Johnson's 14'th Virginia Infantry regiment played a part in Pickett's Charge, often regarded as the high water mark of the Confederacy.

Somehow, after surviving the Civil War, these two men, one from Maine and the other from Virginia, found themselves living in the small town of Anoka, MN. One has to wonder if these two former soldiers knew one another and, if they did, were they friends?

The cache is hidden at N45 12.NNN W93 24.WWW

To determine NNN, take the year Thomas Lang was born, divide by 4 and subtract 182.

To determine WWW, take the year Gustis Johnson was born, divide by 19 and add 157.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
