Geocache Description:

Crkva sv. Vida

Petra i sv. Lovre.

Šimuna i Jude Tadeja.

The fugitive regiment from the poorly defended locality of Lokvice soon after arriving in the newly founded Korita (record of the settlement from 1474) in the middle of the town next to a well-fortified tower built the church of St. Vida. This Gothic-Renaissance building was completed in 1888. In the period from 1694 to 1770 the church was the parish for that part of the island. At that time, the place grew into a rich town, to which many prominent Dubrovnik families, who immigrated after the earthquake in Dubrovnik (1667), also contributed.

Today's appearance of the church was changed by an extension in the 19th century. when she got two arched windows on each side and a triple bell tower.

The building has a simple single-nave form 12x9m. with square apse, baroque porch on pillars 10x10m. and a round window at the front. The interior is with a high Gothic vault, in the presbytery there is an altar table in front of a marble altar with a retable of a painting depicting Our Lady of Carmel surrounded by saints: Blaise, Paul and Vid.
On the main altar was a valuable triptych stored in the bishop's palace in Dubrovnik. Behind the altar is a procession. The side altar has the typical appearance of Baroque wooden altars for this region. The picture on it shows the Annunciation of Mary with the Father, the Holy Spirit and the angel Gabriel in the presence of the favorite saints of St. Peter and St. Lawrence. The altar is from 1677; and the donation was made by the priest Vicko beliumbelić, the bishop's chancellor, who also donated the church of Our Lady of the Hill in Babino Polje. In the sidewalk of the spacious porch are bulky tombstones and the graves of prominent Corinthians. Today, the cemetery has expanded to a larger area around the church. The sprinkler is located on the outer wall of the façade, and the church has a wooden choir at its entrance. Of valuable inventory are preserved the Gothic chalice, the Renaissance Pax and the bronze bell for the service, the work of the Padua art workshop.

Masses are on the feast of the saint on June 15 and for the feast of St. Simon and Judas Thaddeus.
