About the Property
Fairview Cemetery has been serving the greater New Britain community for well over two hundred and fifty years. Established in 1756, Fairview is among the areas oldest and most historic burial grounds. This majestic one hundred acre city within a city, is home to over thirty-eight thousand interments, with room for thousands more. Fairview Cemetery has grown while New Britain has grown around it, all the while maintaining its pastoral abundance, with winding roads and mature trees. Administered by the City of New Britain, Parks & Recreation Department, Fairview Cemetery continues to be one of the area’s foremost non-sectarian cemeteries.
Cemetery Hours - The cemetery grounds are open daily from sunrise until sunset.
Fairview Cemetery will be closed in observance of the following Holidays:
- New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Presidents' Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving,. Christmas Day. If holiday falls on a weekend it will be observed on the closest weekday (Friday or Monday).

Cemeteries are off limits at night: "A person is guilty of criminal trespassing if that person enters or remains in a cemetery or burial ground at any time between 1/2 hour after sunset and 1/2 hour before sunrise the following day, unless that person enters or remains during hours in which visitors are permitted to enter or remain by municipal ordinance or, in the case of a privately owned and operated cemetery, by posting.
