Intro
Vanuit de nabijgelegen wachttorens kan je het Romeinse Castellum ‘Matilo’ goed overzien.
Het huidige park heeft de afmetingen van het fort (castellum) dat hier in 70 na Christus werd bewoond door 500 Romeinse soldaten. De archeologische vondsten bevestigen dit. Deze legerplaats met zijn wachttorens maakte deel uit van de grens van het Romeinse Rijk. Die grenzen noemen we in het Latijn “limes”. Op de oorspronkelijke grenzen vind je nu rondom het park ‘Matilo’ de fietspaden. De wandelpaden en speeltoestellen zijn zo ontworpen dat het avontuurlijke karakter van het Romeinse fort en wachttorens gewaarborgd is.

Intro
Right from the nearby watchtowers, you can get a stunning view of the Roman Castellum named ‘Matilo’.
The current park has the dimensions of the fortress (castellum) that was inhabited in 70 AD by 500 Roman soldiers. The archaeological finds confirm this fact. The former fortress with its watchtowers was part of the border of the Roman Empire. We call these boundaries “limes” in Latin. On the original borders you will now find cycling paths around ‘Matilo’. The walking paths and playgrounds have been designed in such a way that the adventurous character of the Roman fort and watchtowers is guaranteed.
