This cache and the associated Adventure Lab take you on a short tour along the Heritage Rail Trail through the cozy town of New Freedom, Pennsylvania and several of the interesting locations that can be found here.

The Heritage Rail Trail County Park is a National Recreation Trail rail-with-trail in Pennsylvania built in 1999 by the York County Rail Trail Authority (YCRTA). It connects with the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail in Maryland. The trail runs along the active North Centrol Railway line and forms the southernmost part of Route J in the BicyclePA route system.

In addition to the Colonial Courthouse, three historic structures are located on the trail; Hanover Junction and New Freedom Train Stations and Howard Tunnel. Since the railway is operational, please stay clear of tracks at all times and cross only at established crossings.

New Freedom is located in the southern portion of York County, Pennsylvania, 30 miles north of Baltimore, Maryland and 38 miles south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The borough borders the Mason-Dixon line and was incorporated in 1873.

New Freedom is a zero stop-light town but has at least three local restaurants, two ice cream shops and a gas station. There are no chain restaurants.

Parking is free throughout town. A large parking lot is available at the posted coordinates.

Enjoy southern York County!
