Geocache Description:

Artist Valley Walk

Marketing is one of those wretched things the world might be better without. But few would deny the value of an eye-catching name. Take that neglected turning twenty yards south of the Furnace furnace, and you immediately start to ascend sharply. Not to worry - this is a dead end, eventually.

Farmland and views of the Dyfi Estuary soon give way to a mature conifer plantation that cloaks the road in cool, dense shade and makes the tarmac slimy, even in summer.
Ahead lies your chance to hunt for ancient trees and native rainforest, for rare lichen, beavers and a bear, for a camouflaged caravan and traces of silver, lead and Led Zeppelin (singer Robert Plant used to live here).

Cwm Einion gradually opens out into broadleaved woodland either side of the Nant Einion river. Please don't get too distracted by the sun dappling through the canopy above your head. The road has no edge in places so take care.

Unusually for a dead end, after 2½ miles a no through road sign confirms the ultimate futility of the fork in the road, the way you are going leads to a ford. This was merely a trickle when setting this series but I guess at times is unpassable, so you may need to retrace your tracks back over the bridge and take the higher road.
At the end of the road you will find the final cache in this series and Blaeneinion. Blaeneinion is a conservation and education facility and has reintroduced beavers - and 24,000 newly-planted native trees and look out for the Bear! You can stay at the bunkhouse or camp on site, especially if you fancy volunteering.

Cache Series Details

All the caches are similar to this.

The series consists of 2 Multi and 8 Traditional caches. The total walking distance to complete the series and return to the parking is 6.3 miles (10 kms).

Most of the route is along a road but between caches #2 & #6 you go off road onto paths and forest tracks.
The distance to walk the series is 3.4 miles (5.5 kms) Returning you can walk on the road all the way back and this is 2.9 miles (4.6 kms)

All the caches are identical, they are hollowed out logs and inside is a micro plastic tube containing the logbook.
To access the plastic tube pull off the lid, but please replace as found.
