Geocache Description:

This Cache site sits near the banks of Jonathan Creek which is part of the Mountain Heritage Trout Waters of North Carolina. This is a natural Elk path for the herd that originates in the Cataloochee Valley just beyond the neighboring mountain. They are often seen in the early morning and late evenings just coming down from a paved road crossing Jonathan Creek just West of this cache location to visit the lush grasses that are along the main road that runs through Maggie Valley. How Elk follow the same trace is a mystery to me, but it is apparent they "talk" to each other. The bugling of the bulls during the rut is an amazing time, and is in the air during the colors of autumn, typically beginning at the end of August through early November. Click Here to listen to a Bull Elk Bugle.

The elk have also been seen visiting the local bird feeders in the area to add to their daily diet of grasses and leaves. This area is located on the West end of Maggie Valley just off of US 19.

You are looking for an ammo box on the edge of a local park near a section of Jonathan Creek where you can enjoy the peaceful songs of the rushing water. If you circle around the thicket via a gravel pathway you will find an easy entry point for your quest away from the park muggles. Bring your trade items as the ammo box can hold swag.

Please place the cache back just like you find it with some debris covering the container for camouflage. Enjoy your short walk, find a bench afterwards along the creek to relax, life is good!
