I am originally from the Boston area and created this series to spotlight the major league sports teams that I grew up on as a kid and that I continue to follow with my kids as an adult. Love them or hate them, my hope is that you might learn something new about each of these teams while getting out and about exploring the beautiful community of Anthem.
There are a total of seven caches in this series, and this Traditional Cache is slightly different than the others in the series in that it recognizes a world-renowned event, rather than a team. The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's best-known road racing events. First run in 1897, it is one of the six World Marathon Majors. The event attracts 500,000 spectators each year, making it New England's most widely viewed sporting event. Despite starting with only 15 participants in 1897, the event now attracts an average of about 30,000 registered participants each year. The Centennial Boston Marathon in 1996 established a record as the world's largest marathon with 38,708 entrants. The men’s record for the fastest finishing time, as of 2019, was 2:03.
As for the cache, it is a Traditional Cache with a twist. There are two travel bugs contained within the cache, and this is a race to see which one of them can make it to the city of Boston first. Please only take a travel bug if you are prepared to move it along quickly and make the required entries on the website to help track its progress. I would also ask that whoever is the First to Find take only one of the bugs to ensure a different route for each of them. Thanks for your help and I am excited to see which one crosses the finish line first. Congrats to greasenut for the FTF!
UPDATE 10-24-2020: Two more marathon travel bugs have been added to the race. They are in the Boston Marathon cache container as of this date and are ready to travel east!!
