Sun Moon Lake Weather Station was built in 1940 by Japanese Government for the observation of aviation meteorology. The weather station was built at the peak of of Mao Lan Shan with only 1 wind tower. Later in 1951, a wooden office was added at the west of wind tower, bringing the observation on track.
