This small tube container is located near the lovely Cline Lakes. This is a beautiful hike deep in the backcountry of the Cline Public Land Use Zone. It marks a fantastic and scenic place to camp and offers a base camp for higher objectives including Mounts Cline and/or Owen. To the lakes, expect a round-trip hike of 16 kilometers with an elevation gain of 950 meters.
Cline Lakes:
From the parking area (waypoint provided) on the north side of Hwy 11 on the east side of Thompson Creek, follow a good trail up the east side of the creek. Turn left after about one kilometer as the trail crosses two small bridges (waypoint provided). Follow the trail up beside the creek. Watch for an important left turn (flagged, waypoint provided) shortly before a waterfall, and head steeply uphill on a good trail up a moraine into a rubbly bowl. Follow up and cross over the gully to reach a better trail heading right on a treed bench. When this trail peters out, continue contouring around into the upper valley. Go northwest along the upper stream to reach the Cline Lakes, with good campsites at their north end (about 3.5-5 hours from the car).
Since the Cline Lakes are in a Public Land Use Zone (Crown land), random camping is legal and free. As such, there are plenty of primitive campsites already set up around the Cline Lakes. Though it makes a lovely day hike, it's even better to spend a night at the lake and enjoy the scenery. If you do plan on camping, I would highly suggest you practice "Leave No Trace" techniques and pack out ALL of your waste. Make sure you properly treat your drinking water from the lake before using (ie through boiling for 1-2 minutes).
Enjoy your visit to Cline Lakes!
