Questa è la mia prima cache e ho deciso di posizionarla in luogo a me molto caro, il Monte Gazzo. Il monte Gazzo è un piccolo rilievo che si trova alle spalle del quartiere di Sestri Ponente, ma è qualcosa di più di un semplice monte per i sestresi. Tutti i sestresi sono molto affezionati al Monte Gazzo e al Santuario dedicato alla "Madonna della Misericordia" più conosciuto come Santuario di Nostra Signora del Gazzo che si trova alla sua sommità.
(ENG) - This is my first Geocache placement. I decided to hide the Geocache in a place very dear to me, to Mount Gazzo. Mount Gazzo is a moderate sized hillside, located behind Genova’s district called Sestri Ponente. It is somewhat more that an attractive land form however for many of Sestris locals. There is a great fondness by all, for Mount Gazzo and the Sanctuary dedicated to the "Madonna della Misericordia" better known as the “Sanctuary of Our Lady of Gazzo”, which is located on its apex.
Ho impostato questa cache come una gita, lo scopo non deve essere solo trovare la cache ma scoprire un posto dietro a casa poco conosciuto dai non sestresi ma veramente affascinante. Se venite in auto potete posteggiarla vicino alla Chiesa di Santa Maria della Costa, se preferite venire con i mezzi pubblici vicinissimo alla partenza della creuza che dovrete percorrere fa capolina il bus 158 oppure potete venire con il treno e scendere alla fermata di Genova Costa di Sestri Ponente, anche lei attaccata all'inizio della creuza. Quindi scarpe da ginnastica e via su per la salita!
Durante la vostra salita verso la cache incontrerete l’O.A.G., Osservatorio Astronomico di Genova, www.oagenova.it. L’O.A.G. è una struttura astronomica costruita all'inizio degli anni Ottanta, gestita dall'Università Popolare Sestrese.
(ENG) I set up this geocache hunt to combine with a hike, with the idea that the incentive to find Geocache would be conpled with experience of discovering a fascinating monument little known to non-locals. If you choose to arrive at the starting point (“the creuza” or brick path that leads you to the top), by car, you’ll find parking close to the Church of Sancta Maria della Costa, by public transport bus No. 158 or train alighting at the station Genova Costa di Sestri. Both bus and train stops are very close to the starting point. Lace up trainers and go, go, go!
During your climb to the Geocache you pass by the O.A.G., the Astronomical Observatory of Genoa (www.oagenova.it.) The structure was built in the early 1980’s and is managed by Popular University of Sestrese.
Dopo qualche centinaio di metri incontrerete la Chiesina di S. Rocco, famosa perché qui, sostarono diretti al Santuario della Madonna del Gazzo, l’imperatore Federico Guglielmo di Germania nel 1878 ed Elisabetta d’Austria, meglio nota come Sissi, nel 1893.
(ENG) - After a few hundred meters you will arrive at the location of the Church of St. Rocco, noted famous as a resting stop for Emperor Frederick William of Germany in 1878 and again later in 1893 for Elisabeth (better known as Sissi) of Austria, as theiy made their pilgrimages to the Sanctuary.
Continuate la salita forza! Dopo ancora un po’ di cammino arriverete ai “fortini”, dove durante la seconda guerra mondiale erano posizionate delle batterie anti-nave. Riposatevi un attimo e godetevi il panorama da qui perché è magnifico e se avete tempo fermarvi per un bel pic nic.
(ENG) – Keep heading upwards, you can do this! Shortly you arrive at the "Forts", where anti-naved batteries were positioned during the Second World War. Rest for a moment to admire the view as it is simply magnificent and if you have time to linger, it’s a perfect spot for a picnic.
Dai ci siete quasi, da qui ormai non c’è più molto per arrivare alla cache.
Siccome mi sono stufata di trovare cache piccole o micro e non ho mai trovato una bella cache piena di oggettini interessanti ho pensato di crearla io, quindi portatevi dietro qualche piccolo oggetto per scambiarlo con uno presente nella cache.
Una volta che avrete trovato la cache, non tornate subito indietro, continuate a salire fino alla vetta del Monte Gazzo, ormai vi manca pochissimo.
Arrivati in vetta troverete il Santuario, salite la scaletta e sopra al tetto sarà ad accogliervi la statua della Madonna del Gazzo, è veramente molto molto grande! www.santuariomontegazzo.it
(ENG) Come on! you're almost there, so close to the Geocache.
Since I got tired of finding small or micro caches and I never found a nice cache full of interesting objects I thought of creating it myself, and if I may suggest the you bring some small objects with you, that could be exchanged for one that you find in the cache.
Once you have succesully located the cache, I recommend that you continue your hike to the summit of Mount Gazzo, you are so very close.
Arriving at the top the Sanctuary welcomes you… set of stairs takes you to the roof the Sanctuary where there is an enormons statue representing Our Lady of Gazzo (www.santuariomontegazzo.it).
Presso il santuario ha sede il Museo Speleologico del Monte Gazzo, nato nel 1968 con la finalità di realizzare un museo delle grotte per preservare una testimonianza anche fisica delle numerose cavità del monte, poiché tante sarebbero andate distrutte negli anni successivi a causa dello sfruttamento del sottosuolo da parte delle cave a cielo aperto che purtroppo hanno eroso buona parte del Monte.

(ENG) - The Sanctuary also houses the Speleological Museum of Mount Gazzo, built in 1968 with the aim of creating a museum of caves to preserve a physical testimony to the numerous cavities within the mountain, the plan was adapted as without it many caves would have been destroyed or lost in consequent years due to the exploitation of the subsoil by the open-air quarries which have unfortunately erroded a large part of the mountain.
