I recently became aware of this interesting location in Halifax called the Carefour Atlantic Emprorium. It is an "ECLECTIC SHOWCASE for the Discriminating Mind...Offering LITERATURE, ART and HANDICRAFT...FROM the EAST COAST and the NORTH of CANADA...".
If I've ever wanted to visit a place this one is calling my name. The weight of it, the heightened knowledge of the artwork that may be on display. I can only imagine the freight that goes in and out of a place like that.
But then I change my mind and decide to pass, ixnay the idea and look for something else to do. Like go for a walk in a softwood forest or along the coast. Here I can escape the noise, the frantic buzz eroding my ability to focus on what really matters. With reel and line and a peaceful day on the lake, the benefit is fivefold that of spending money on something else I don't need.
The dilemma I guess is to weigh the benefits of art and culture against those of the natural world.
Which would you choose?
