On a cold January day in 2015 we decide to introduce my grandsons to geocaching. The whole family was together for the holidays, so we checked the app for a cache close to home, bundled up and went out to find it. We found two that day, both as it turns out, hidden by someone whom I would later meet when we worked at the same institution. She has since moved on to another part of the world, and the caches have been archived. Five and half years later, when my grandsons were again visiting, we decided to hide a cache. What better place than near where our first (now archived) finds together had been? So we headed out along the same route we had traveled in 2015, looking for a good hide.
Sag Harbor is a village divided between two towns: Southampton and East Hampton. Division Street marks the boundary between the towns. Where Division Street ends, a dirt path called Town Line Road begins. That's a good place to start looking for this traditional cache. At the time it was hidden, this small "official geocache" snap-closure container was jam-packed with small trinkets and other goodies with kids in mind. So bring your kids with you to find this cache, and if you plan on taking something as a souvenier, please bring something (small) with you to leave for the next geocacher.
