This stone building was originally built as the Baddeck Post Office and Customs House. It opened in 1886. The Post Office was relocated in 1956, and the building was sold to Samuel Gayley, who gave it to his wife Gertrude -- the granddaughter of Alexander Graham Bell. She named the building after her father, Gilbert Grosvenor, a former editor of National Geographic magazine.
Later the building housed the Baddeck Library until the 1980's. Then it was the home of the Bras d'Or Lakes and Watershed Interpretative Centre.
It was recognized as an historic property by Nova Scotia in 1983.
Currently a retail store selling souvenirs with a nauatical theme.
