We added a container cache to go with our newly published Adventure Lab, Memories of the 80s--The Outsiders Adventure Lab. You will receive your coordinates for this location once you complete the Adventure Lab, be sure to review your journal entires and look at the last entry. You will be looking for a small sized container. Remember you are under no obligation to attempt the cache and be mindful of your surroundings.
We were teens of the 1980s, both in high school and in college, we have many fond memories of those years. We have placed a series of caches to commerate some of the highlights of those years. The cache may be a tribute to an event of historical signifigance, personal or the pop culture of the time. We just completed an Adventure Lab to highlight the Tulsa made movie, The Outsiders, based on the book by the same name of local Tulsan, S.E. Hinton and directed by Frances Ford Cappula.
In 1982, Tulsa and many of its locations were home to a crew of what would become many of Hollywood's leading men. Actors such as Leif Garrett, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillion, C. Thomas Howell, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Ralph Maccio, Diane Lane and Rob Lowe became temporary residents of our fair city. Many of them would eventually become members of a group known as the Brat Pack and would star in many notable films of the decade. This was Rob Lowe's first film. Patrick Swayze and C. Thomas Howell would later go on to star in Red Dawn, Tom Cruise in Top Gun, Emilio Estevez in Young Guns, The Breakfast Club and Ralph Maccio in The Karate Kid I & II.
The story was based on the real life experiences of S.E. Hinton's real life experience while she attended Will Rogers High School. She based it on the rival gangs of the Socs(South Tulsa) and the Greasers (North Tulsa). Many teens loved the book and movie and make special trips to Tulsa as adults to see the places where the movie was shot. We based our Adventure Lab on some of these locations.
