蒸気機関車C11は1932年に誕生した機関車で1947年までに381両が生産されました。
この車両は兵庫で製造され、仙台局に配属。
その後、1975年の廃車まで、九州の吉塚・志布志に在籍しました。
廃車後は今はなき三段峡駅に展示されていましたが、同駅の廃止に伴い
2003年、現在の地に移転し保存されています。
