This month's Hike & Cache will be hosted out in the Valley at the Scout Ridge & Cottonwood Creek Trails!
I've started working my way through the Southcentral Alaska Day Hiking guidebook with JagerBar as he flexes his hiking muscles and this area looks lovely!
We'll meet at the Cottonwood Creek trailhead for half an hour of geocache talking and travel bug discovery. At 11, hikers can choose to do the Scout Ridge trail (1.2 miles with 180 ft of elevation gain - a loop) or the Wetlands Out-and-Back trail (1.4 miles with 15 ft of elevation gain).
Rubber boots are strongly recommended for the Wetlands trail; come prepared!
Please wear your mask and be prepared to be socially distant. Bring hand sanitizer if you're planning on finding any caches along the trail.
This is meant to be a social hike, and hikers can go at whatever pace they'd like on the trail! Come make some caching friends, or say hi to the ones you already have.
As always, please take your own personal safety seriously and don't come just for the smiley. Those who are considered a vulnerable population are recommended to continue staying home. Facial coverings/masks are strongly recommended. To properly use gloves as PPE, do not touch your face or phone with the gloves on - use them just for picking up trash and remove them and place them in your trashbag before touching personal items. Always sanitize your hands if soap and water are not available. And keep your distance from others who are not in your immediate household!
