Power semiconductors will be produced fully automatically on 300- millimetre thin wafers. These so-called energy-saving chips are used in many everyday applications such as smartphones, household appliances and cars, but also in data servers, medical devices, solar and industrial systems. With investments totalling about EUR 1.6 billion, additionally ca. 400 highly qualified jobs required in the new chip factory were created. The Villach site also is a major research and development hub, as Infineon is one of the strongest industrial research companies in Austria.
