Canadian Limbermen supplied the British Army with Huge Quantities of timber from Stovers' Woodland during the First World War.
The Canadian Forsetry Corps arrived here in 1916 and felled 700 acres of the estate. The Canadians stationed at Stover were skilled foresters and sawyers. Some were French speaking and many were British born migrants coming returning "home".
Local People were very curious about the Canadians and enjoyed fetes and sports days when the visitors demonstrated their skills in logging, baseball, canoeing and First Nations ceremonies. You can read more on the Board near this cache.
The cache can be found as part of my Stover Stroll or an enjoyable walk from Stover Park itself along the Heritage Way.
