Riverdale Cemetery: All Cemeteries Need A Cache
One of our favorite parts of geocaching is finding caches in cemeteries. There are many cemeteries in Ashtabula County and all of them have stories to tell.
This cache is placed in the Riverdale Cemetery located in Trumbull Township. This cemetery is also known as Barnes Cemetery and Cogswell Cemetery. This is one of the most interesting cemeteries in Ashtabula County. It is quite old and seemingly a bit forgotten as there is overgrowth throughout. The latest grave in the cemetery is from 1875. Dawn to Dusk caching only. Please be respectful of the surroundings while searching. The cache is not directly by any graves.
The oldest grave in the cemetery belongs to Harmon Hunt, who passed in 1834.
Please use the parking coordinates on Riverdale Road to locate the entry trail. Parking is a bit sketchy here as you will have to pull off the road as far as you can, but there's not a lot to work with. Also, please be careful in the cemetery as there are a number of grave stones lying on the ground.
