Geocache Description:

Welcome to Tom's Run Nature Preserve

This new addition to Monongahela County is a large expanse of diverse terrain with hiking trails scattered throughout. Comprised of over 300 acres of land, the nature reserve has several individual parcels to explore, each with a unique flair. This cache is located in the southernmost end of the north parcel, Dunlap. While the majority of the preserve is hosted on the top of the hill, this hidden treasure is tucked away in the valley below the main preserve. Giving the namesake of this preserve, this cache is located on the falling banks of Tom's Run, a small stream that feeds into the Monongahela River.

To locate this geocache, park at the coordinates below and make your way down the gravel trail. The hike is about a half-mile round trip on a hardpacked and well-maintained trail. Once at the bottom, locating the geocache should be easy, in fact, you'll be able to see it long before you lay your hands on it, but getting to GZ may prove difficult. The terrain varies per season, and some light wading may be required at times. The terrain rating is slightly inflated to reflect this.

DISCLAIMER: As with any outdoor activity, please exercise caution while seeking this geocache. The falls of the cascade are steep and at times can be swift or slick. Watch the little ones and K-9 cachers to ensure a successful geocaching adventure for all.

Each time I have visited this area, I have encountered fellow hikers. That being said, please ensure to rehide the cache exactly, if not better, as you found it to ensure others visiting the area don't walk off with it. Also, although it may be tempting, please refrain from exploring the land past the geocache, as it is on private property. Lastly, enjoy your time in nature. This is a really neat spot that can be a lot of fun to visit!

CONGRATULATIONS TO DUKEMARTIN ON THIS 20,000TH FIND MILESTONE!!!
