Geocache Description:

*please read whole description about retrieving cache and log*

This reserve is a little hidden reserve that you probably didn’t know about, we normally ride our bikes through here to get to Passmore reserve

A brief history:

In June 1912 manly council purchased 4 acres of Wentworth estate at the end of Addiscombe road for use for garbage disposal. A garbage incinerator, known as the Addiscombe road destructor, was built on the site and opened in 1913. The destructor had a tall brick chimney and could burn 50 tons (45359.2 kilograms) of Manly’s garbage a week. the destructor soon became a nuisance for nearby residents. it was demolished in 1940. The site was then used as a tip. in 1988, Manly council sold the site to the department of housing for housing development. the side was never developed because of contamination and potential flooding. The worst areas of contamination are fenced off from the public.
