Exploring the tracks through the Longwood forest is recommended if you have any interest in the old gold mining history or water management through Dams and Water Races. Turnbull's Hut was made to house people maintaining these races. Originally 4 bunk but now only 2 and somewhat dilapidated but you can stay here overnight for free if you wish. Has a novel back free fireplace (i.e. a big hole). There are several tracks to it, I have given I think the easiest but if you like tramping there are much longer ones along the Te Araroa Trail. For those just wanting a day walk the loop to Martin's Hut is a good leg stretcher and you can pick up another cache (GC90JDC).

WARNING - It is the DEER ROAR March/April. It is recommended that all walkers wear a High Vis Vest while walking through the Longwoods Forest .
