Geocache Description:

Every day is Earth day! Try and remove a piece of trash from this island while here, it doesn't get many visitors! Feel free to add any pictures you take while looking for this cache and leave a favorite point to attract others here if you enjoyed!

A young Keene hunter brought down a wild goose while hunting at the pond one day. He brought the bird into the village and showed it to his friends, who suggested that they should have a party at the Ralston Tavern to consume the bird.

They sold many dinner tickets for $1 each. When the cooked bird arrived at the table, however, it was much smaller than it had appeared previously. The ticket holders had small portions of goose meat and large quantities of alcohol to get their dollars’ worth. The rowdy party that resulted cost the party-goers $30 more for broken glass and pottery.

From that time the body of water where the goose was taken was known as Goose Pond.

Animals you'll see: Geese, Painted Turtles, Red Efts, River Otters, Cute Dogs, Snapping Turtles, Stink Bugs,

Goose Island is seen by virtually everyone from everywhere in this park, but very few go out to it since not many watercraft can get up here, and it's a little wet to do so across the log bridge. I personally wheeled a kayak up the access road, but there's also the "bridge" you can take from the nearby island if you would like to wade a little bit.

Some people have tagged the trees recently, which is unfortunate. Campfire rings are on both islands, so people likely camp out here over night, whether homeless or kids having fun. At night in the end of summer, hundreds of geese will descend and honk loudly as they fight for spots to rest on their migration south
