Geocache Description:

History Revealed!

A lot of people don't know this history of this park. Yes, yes, I know it looks like a quiet, peaceful park--but not so! The real name of this place is "Basso National Space Center." The park district simply runs it between launches.

At GZ, you are standing on the actual launch pad! That long driveway is to keep visitors safely away from the flames during a launch. If you hear a warning siren and the sound of a rocket getting ready, run!

Anyway, when I was a lad, my dad was one of the rocket scientists. They let me hang around, playing around with the rockets, and causing trouble. I was able to get a pretty good snapshot of "BASSO-1" taking off.

One day, old Augustus Basso, the Flight Director, placed something on the launch pad. He said we would know what to do. Is it still there?
