Zij vindt dat Siegfried volwassen wordt en opzoek moet gaan naar een mooie bruid. Siegfried is kwaad en gaat met zijn vriend Alexander het bos in om te jagen. Bij het meer aangekomen ziet hij zwanen. Hij besluit om op de zwanen te jagen maar wordt tegengehouden door Odette, de koningin van de zwanen. Zij verteld Siegfried dat de zwanen zijn betoverd door tovenaar Von Rothbart. Iedere nacht mogen de zwanen weer eventjes meisjes zijn. Als de prins Odette ziet, is hij opslag verliefd. Ze dansen samen de hele nacht. Siegfried belooft om met Odette te trouwen om de betovering te verbreken. Hij nodigt haar ook uit voor zijn verjaardagsbal. Als de nacht voorbij is veranderd Odette weer in een zwaan.
Siegfried is terug op het kasteel. Het is de avond van zijn verjaardagsbal. Iedereen is uitgenodigd. Elke prinses probeert Siegfrieds aandacht te trekken en hoopt dat hij met haar wilt trouwen. Siegfried denkt alleen maar aan Odette. Ook Von Rothbart is gekomen naar het bal, vermomt als edelman. Hij heeft zijn dochter Odile meegenomen, gekleed als zwarte zwaan. Met een beetje magie lijkt zij sprekend op Odette. Odile danst met de prins en hij verklaart de liefde aan haar, denkend dat zij Odette is. Als Siegfried dit verraad ontdekt, slaat hij op de vlucht.
Siegfried vlucht richting het meer naar Odette toe. Von Rothbart probeert Siegfried te verjagen door een zware storm. De twee geliefden vinden elkaar, maar verdrinken samen in het meer.
