Stange Telefonforening ble stiftet i 1890, 14 år etter at Alexander Graham Bell oppfant telefonen.
Første lokalet hadde de på Lindbo i Storgata (nå det gule bygget overfor M. Pettersson). Det ble innkjøpt et sentralbord for 100 abonnenter, og i 1892 var det 70 abonnenter på Stange. Tre damer hadde jobben med å plugge slik at folk kunne telefonere til hverandre.
Fra 1914 til nedleggelsen i 1957 holdt sentralen til i 2. etasje der hvor det er gatekjøkken i dag.
Telefonen var en fantastisk nyvinning som gjorde det mulig å kommunisere over lange avstander. Lite ante vel Graham Bell om hvor viktig telefonen skulle vise seg å bli i alle folks liv, drøyt 100 år etter at hans oppfinnelse så dagens lys.

Stange Telefonforening (Stange Phone Assosiation) was founded in 1890, 14 years after Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.
They had their first premises at Lindbo in Storgata (the yellow building opposite M. Pettersson). A switchboard was purchased for 100 subscribers, and in 1892 there were 70 subscribers in Stange. Three ladies worked at the telephone exchange to establish telephone calls between subscribers.
From 1914 until the closure in 1957, the telephone exchange was located on the second floor where there is a fast food restaurant today.
The telephone was a fantastic innovation that made it possible to communicate over long distances. Little did Graham Bell know how important the telephone would prove to be in people's lives, just over 100 years after his invention saw the light of day.
