Geocache Description:

This cache is located near the South shore of Lake Hodges. Even though this part of Lake Hodges is currently dry, you will find great scenery in the area. There are many beautiful vistas and there is lush greenery in the lakebed.

Note 5-4-03:  I checked on the cache today and it is gone.  I will disable the cache until I decide if I am going to replace it or not.  If you were planning on visiting this cache to get the clue for my Coolswag @ View Junction cache, here is the clue:

There are two parking areas/trailheads that you can use to get to this cache.  Both are on West Bernardo Drive just west of Interstate 15 and it is an easy hike or bike to the cache from either area.  The coordinates for the two parking areas are as follows:

N 33 03.121  W 117 04.588
There is good parking and trailhead access here.  Watch for the "Bernardo Bay Natural Area” sign.

N 33 03.268  W 117 04.515
This is roadside parking.  Be careful where you pull off because there are large drop-offs onto the shoulder in some places.  I prefer the hike from here as the trail takes you along the edge of the Lake.

The Kumeyaay Indians inhabited this area about 500 years ago.  If you look closely at some of the rocks in the area, you will find morteros where the Indians ground acorns, seeds and other foods.  A good example can be found at N 33 03.316  W 117 04.863.  When you have time, you may want to hike the Piedras Pintadas (Painted Rocks) Interpretive Trail which starts from the first parking area listed above.  You can find more historical information here and you can find a Piedras Pintadas Trail map here.

This cache is dedicated to those "technogeek" little kids and big kids who love their techno-toys.  The cache is in a standard ammo box with some great initial geoswag including many techno-toys.  Bring along one of your favorite techno-toys to swap.

Note:  You will find one of the clues for my Coolswag @ View Junction cache in the ammo box.

Happy Geocaching
