Geocache Description:

Nordre Kirke

English:

Nordre Kirke was completed as a chapel for inauguration on 15th of May 1923 and was inaugurated by diocesan provost Johan Chr. Call.

The small church is located in the northern part of Nykøbing Falster, and deserves more attention, so therefore it should have its own cache.

The church is open to the public from May to September from 10 - 17 and from October to April from kl. 10-16.

So if you log this cache within these time periods, give yourself time to take a little look around inside the church, the door is open. Notice the simplicity of the church, the sun reflecting on the pulpit and perhaps the altarpiece of the confirmands, made in collaboration with a local artist, it can be found behind the cross. The  confirmands create a new altar every year.

Parish priest Lill Arendt Hemmingsen is affiliated with Nordre kirke and in addition to Sunday services, she also performs baptisms and funerals. Notice the baptismal font at the pulpit.

Every Wednesday morning all year round there is a short service with time for singing, and reflections

History:

Nordre Kirke started as a funeral chapel, but after a few years there was a need for hosting Sunday services  as well. Therefore the church applied for permission to set up a pulpit, altar table and baptismal font from the ministry of church affairs I order to celebrate Mass on Sundays. The application was granted.

In 1993, the church was finally inaugurated after an extensive renovation, which was done by the artist Erik Mortensen and the sculptor Ove Bang Jørgensen.

They replaced all the furniture, except the chairs: they got a new pulpit, baptismal font, altar table, altar cross, kneelingbench, new candelabras and chandeliers, and a brand new tiled floor. When the renovation was finished,  the Ministry of Church Affairs granted permission for the chapel to be inaugurated as a Church, and therefore it is today called “Nordre kirke”.
