You'll find this cache near the former home of Walt Whitman, the great American poet known as the father of free verse (poetry without rhymes or metre patterns). Whitman grew up in Brooklyn, eventually working for various newspapers and printers in the area. His most famous poetry collection, Leaves of Grass, was published while he lived at 99 Ryerson Street. He moved to Washington, DC to care for wounded soldiers during the Civil War and died in Camden, New Jersey at the age of 72.
Walt Whitman wrote primarily about the natural world, human connection, and the cycles of life and death. His poem "Song of the Open Road" is worth a read in its entirety, but I find this passage particularly appropriate for geocachers:
"Nature is rude and incomprehensible at first,
Be not discouraged, keep on, there are divine things well envelop’d,
I swear to you there are divine things more beautiful than words can tell."
